Artist of the Month

W. Patrick O’Brien

  • ‍ ‍

    W. Patrick O’Brien was born and raised in Houston,Texas.  After his parents gifted him with a Kodak Hawkeye camera on his 10th birthday, he developed a fascination with photography and capturing images. He cites the graphic art of 1950s and ‘60s media, especially the Sci-Fi paperback covers and psychedelic record album art as major influences in his youth.

After receiving his BA in Radio/TV/Film from the University of Houston in 1976, Patrick gained professional experience in several graphic arts including commercial photolabs, lithography, aerial photomapping, and motion graphics. He retired after 25 years of experience as a Forensic Investigator.

Patrick credits the anti-mundane vision of artists such as Rene Magritte, Max Ernst, man ray, and Jerry Uelsmann as those he endeavors to emulate. He strives to create photographic images that are much more than straight documentations, but are personal and surreal interpretations, transformations and abstractions.  His images have been published in periodicals and shown at a multitude of juried group and solo exhibits throughout the United States and in the UK. He is a member of the Williamson County Art Guild, Texas Photographic Society, and the Photographic Society of America.  His image gallery website is: www.3EyedManImages.com.
