Get started with acrylic paint! From Helena:

Week One (the teacher supplies all you will need for this lesson!!!)

The focus will be on tools and the "tricks of the trade"

  • We will discuss brushes, paint, canvases, and a variety of other tools you will need to increase your opportunity for success.

  • We will practice a variety of brushstrokes on a canvas, and discuss the proper loading of paint on the brush

    • How to use the brush to create the desired effect

  • Basic color theory and color mixing will be introduced.

  • In each weekly session you will become more acquainted with the Basic Elements of Art.

  • Each student will be given a folder with a collection of materials to support the subjects covered in class

  • A supply list will be handed out

Week Two (you will bring whatever supplies you have acquired thus far)

  • Teacher supplies will be available as needed; bring any supplies you may have purchased prior to this class

  • For this week's lesson, I will provide a study that we will use for a "Class Paint Along"

  • The study will be a Still-Life.  We will paint this as  a step by step exercise.  We will take our time to execute the variety of brushwork involved

  • No one will be left behind!

    • Expect the painting to take 2 sessions to complete

I hope this overview of weeks one and two provides and idea of how we will start our artistic journey. Beyond week two we will decide how we will progress. Until we meet, you can being collecting studies of subject matter you might like to paint (cards, photos, etc).

I am looking forward to meeting and working with each one of you!
